Meet Dr. Jacob Pschirrer

Being a dentist is a huge part of who I am: I love making people feel comfortable and get the care they need. I particularly appreciate seeing people who have been afraid of seeing the dentist — sometimes for years — and being able to connect with them, ease their fears, and help them feel positive about dental care.

I like taking my time to get to know my patients: learning what interests them, what makes them tick. I find that clear communication and genuine care can alleviate anxieties and allow us to build a trusting connection.

Beyond that, I really enjoy talking about topics beyond oral health. I have learned so much from my patients: from gardening to fishing to mushroom hunting tips, books to read, and many more things. My patients have a wealth of knowledge to share.

I like it when I’m out running errands at Wal-Mart or Rural King and see so many friendly faces that I know from the office. We live in such a great community, full of polite, kind, and amazing people; I am glad to help them and appreciate their trust!

Our Practice and Team

We have had the same team members for years! This means our patients see the same smiling, supportive, trustworthy people at every visit, year after year. This allows us to develop real relationships with our patients, and to build a rapport that goes beyond healthcare providers and patients. We respect and treat each patient on a personal level, as we would want to be treated.

Education

I am from Charleston; I graduated from Charleston High School in 1992. From there I went to Illinois State University where I was a biology major, chemistry minor, and graduated with my Bachelor of Science in 1996. I attended Southern Illinois School of Dental Medicine, where I graduated with my Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 2000.

While my dental schooling provided an excellent foundation in the field, dentistry is constantly evolving. I work to stay up to date on empirically proven techniques and technologies through various continuing education opportunities.

In addition to taking SIU-SDM alumni courses and midwinter continuing education courses in Chicago, I read the latest research and other discussions in professional journals. I am also an active member of the Illinois State Dental Society and the American Dental Association.

Beyond the Practice

I’m a Charleston native and now live in the country with my family. I love the peacefulness of country life: listening to the crickets and watching my kids play in the yard. It doesn’t get any better!

You will meet my wife Cara at the front desk. She manages our dental practice and you will recognize her from her amazing smile and gentle nature. She is truly the kindest person I have ever met.

We have two children, Braden and Christine. They both love school and make us very proud. We recently got a Shih Tzu puppy and he has brought a lot of joy into our lives. We are now officially “dog people.”

When I’m not working, I’m almost always outside. I love gardening and have lots of vegetable and flower gardens to tend to. I also enjoy bow hunting in the fall and winter. Most of all, I love being at home with my wife and kids, enjoying all kinds of family activities, or simply relaxing with a cup of coffee on my front porch.

Who Am I?

I love to laugh and make people laugh. I enjoy learning and reading about many things: dentistry, history, gardening, bow hunting, cars, and guns, to name but a few. I love getting together with my family every Sunday, whether we’re watching Bears football in the fall and winter or swimming in my parents’ pool in the summer. Also, I love good food and my wife is an awesome chef!

I am honored to serve my hometown as a dentist and truly try to treat each person the way I would want to be treated.
